Craving some Korean BBQ? While at first glance on Google map, Galbi-House Korean Cuisine offers a menu full of Korean staples, it offers a unique twist that might surprise those expecting a traditional experience.
Located at Buchholzer Straße in Prezlauerberg, this eatery seems to be a Vietnamese-owned Korean restaurant. While they do have some options for grilling at the table, it’s not quite the DIY, interactive experience you might find at a classic Korean BBQ place. Here, all the raw meat is served directly on a grill plate alongside some salad, instead of letting the customer grill their own.
We passed on the grill choice because it didn’t suit our mood and what we were hoping to have. Instead, we tried their Kimchi Pancake – it has a crispy texture and balanced kimchi flavor. While ours was crispy, it felt like it had a lot of flour and not too much kimchi as we were expecting. We also ordered the Bulgogi Bibimbap and a vegetable noodle soup. Both dishes were okay but nothing we will say delicious for our taste, it’s also on the salty side. The lemonade also felt like it was made with Sprite.
The service was very average. It took a pretty long time for the noodles to come. If we hadn’t waited, we would already finished the other 2 dishes before the noodles came. It has a nice decoration, but overall the place doesn’t give a very clean vibe. We wiped the table ourselves, and the wet tissues were quite filthy.
Overall, Galbi-House offers an experience that might not satisfy those seeking a truly authentic Korean meal. However, for those open to exploring Korean flavors in Prezlauerberg, it could be an interesting option. It’s worth noting that some online reviews rave about their grill plates, so for those who don’t look for authentic Korean cuisine, it might be worth venturing back to try that out.
