- Small plate – Pulled Pork
Big Stuff Smoked BBQ isn’t just a restaurant, it’s a destination within a destination. Nestled inside the vibrant Markthalle Neun, a historic market hall in Berlin’s Kreuzberg district, Big Stuff stands out as a haven for smoky, slow-cooked meats.
A Foodie Paradise: Markthalle Neun
For those unfamiliar, Markthalle Neun is a must-visit for any food lover. Imagine rows upon rows of vendors showcasing an incredible array of fresh produce, international delicacies, and handcrafted treats. The atmosphere is electric, a constant buzz of conversation and delicious aromas wafting through the air. This is where Big Stuff BBQ has carved out its own niche, tempting hungry patrons with the promise of melt-in-your-mouth, slow-smoked goodness.
Big Stuff Smoked BBQ: A Love Affair with Smoked Meats
We’ve been loyal fans of Big Stuff for a while now, and their consistently delicious smoked meats keep us coming back for more. On our most recent visit, we indulged in their signature pulled pork. Just like always, it was incredibly tender and flavorful. The marinade is spot-on, not overpowering the natural taste of the meat but adding a subtle smoky depth. While we haven’t had their chicken on this visit, we have to mention it’s fantastic too!
Flavorful Sides and Friendly Service
Big Stuff’s plates come with a trio of complementary sides. There’s usually a tangy pickled cucumber, creamy potato salad, and a side of beans. While the pickles aren’t my personal favorite, the friendly staff is always happy to swap them out for a fresh salad upon request. This time around, the beans weren’t very spicy, so don’t be afraid to give them a try!
Big Stuff operates with a casual, self-serve style. You order and pay at the bar, then head over to their prepping station where the friendly staff will assemble your meal to your specifications. Don’t forget to grab a beverage while you’re there – their homemade lemonade is a refreshing complement to the smoky flavors of the BBQ.
Delicious but little bit pricey
While the portions at Big Stuff are on the smaller side compared to some other market hall vendors, the quality of the ingredients and the overall flavor more than make up for it. It’s a casual, self-serve style, so we do find it a bit on the more expensive side. However honestly, we haven’t found anything quite like their smoky pulled pork (or chicken!) in Berlin, so for us, the occasional splurge at Big Stuff is totally worth it.
