Cocodrillo used to be our go-to spot for delicious Italian food and a vibrant atmosphere in Berlin. Having frequented this restaurant many times before, we were excited to celebrate a friend’s birthday there. Unfortunately, this recent visit fell far short of our expectations.

A Fumbled Birthday Request

In the spirit of the occasion, I contacted Cocodrillo by email a few days prior to our reservation. A simple request – a birthday candle atop the dessert of our friend’s choice. The restaurant’s initial reply offered a glimmer of hope, mentioning a sparkling candle on the dessert. However, upon inquiring about the specifics of this arrangement, our emails went unanswered. Not the most promising start.

A Rocky Start to the Evening

Despite having a reservation, we arrived to find a queue waiting to be seated. Once seated, another hurdle emerged – a lengthy wait (over 15 minutes) before our order was even taken, and only after we flagged down a server.

Food Underwhelms and Service Inconsistencies

Our appetites weren’t enormous, so we opted for a shared starter, pizza, and their famed truffle pasta. A significant amount of time passed before the appetizer plates were cleared, further extending our wait for the main course. When the pizza and pasta finally arrived, the biggest disappointment unfolded – the food was lukewarm. The truffle pasta, once a highlight, appeared to have languished under a heat lamp, the sauce dried and lacking its usual vibrancy. The pizza, while edible, wasn’t anything remarkable.

Dessert Debacle and Unequal Service

Continuing the theme of inattentiveness, securing a server’s attention for dessert proved another challenge. Our order for two portions of tiramisu arrived as a single serving. Though rectified, it added another layer of frustration.

The most disheartening aspect of the evening was the stark contrast in service between our table and our neighbors. Their server was attentive and proactive, taking orders without them needing to flag someone down. We couldn’t help but wonder if our attire or the size of our order influenced this disparity.

A Birthday Letdown

Cocodrillo’s once stellar service and delicious food have seemingly faltered. The lukewarm dishes, inattentive service, and inconsistencies left us with a disappointing birthday celebration for our friend. This experience is a far cry from the exceptional dining experiences we’ve had here in the past.
