You know that moment when Plan A doesn’t work out but Plan B turns out to be amazing? That’s exactly what happened when we stumbled upon Bullguer, a burger joint near the super touristy TimeOut Market in Lisbon. The 4.7-star rating on Google Maps caught our attention, and boy, did it deliver!
Bullguer is a Brazilian smash burger chain that’s making waves in Lisbon. What started as a humble burger joint in São Paulo back in 2015 has now grown into a sensation with over 30 locations in Brazil, and lucky for us, they chose Lisbon for their international venture.
What Makes Their Burgers Special
Their philosophy is simple yet revolutionary – they’re deliberately going against the fancy “gourmet burger” trend. No fancy plating or exotic ingredients here! Just honest, delicious smash burgers served quick and casual. The star of the show? Their perfectly grilled brioche buns that achieve that magical crispy-outside-fluffy-inside balance.
I did some digging and found out that Bullguer actually pioneered a new burger movement in São Paulo, moving away from pretentious gourmet burgers toward more accessible, classic combinations. They focus on quality ingredients like Black Angus beef patties, letting the natural flavors shine through without any fancy frills.
The Menu Experience
The Standard burger might sound basic, but it’s their signature smash burger technique that makes it extraordinary. The Super Burger, which takes 12 minutes to prepare (they’re specific about this on the menu!), is worth every second of the wait.
Don’t skip their “Crinkles” – their fun name for crinkle-cut fries. These crispy, crunchy potato strips are the perfect sidekick to their burgers. The staff’s friendly attitude and bilingual menus make the whole experience even better, we highly recommend this place to other burger lovers!
