Walking into Steak House No.1 in Kiel, you’ll notice the restaurant’s unique dual personality – a traditional steakhouse area on one side and a modern, bright dining space on the other. I chose to sit in the contemporary section, where the atmosphere feels cozy yet sophisticated, perfect for both casual dining and special occasions.
The Star of the Show: The Steaks
As someone who’s always hunting for the perfect steak, I was thrilled to try their flank steak (250g) and flat iron steak (220g). Both cuts were cooked to perfection – a beautiful crust on the outside while maintaining that perfect pink center that serious steak lovers dream about. The meat was incredibly tender, which is particularly impressive for flank steak, known for its robust flavor but sometimes challenging texture.
The Sides and Extras
Each steak comes with thoughtful accompaniments – a fresh, crispy side salad and their signature Steak-House bread that adds a satisfying crunch to the meal. The potato sides deserve special mention – I tried both the french fries and potato gratin, and they complemented the steaks beautifully. The restaurant provides a variety of sauces (barbecue sauce, krauter butter, ketchup, and mayo) allowing diners to customize their experience.
